What do you get when you put the Italian word for brain - 'cervello' - and the French word for bike - 'vélo' - together? Exactly: Cervélo. The high-end road bike brand (which also makes state-of-the-art mountain bikes, by the way) is heavily engineering-driven. Every Cervélo road bike follows a highly aerodynamic design, is lightweight and always innovative. Everything at the Dutch-Canadian brand is dedicated to making the fastest bike in the world. It’s not without reason Team Visma - Lease a bike professional cycling team ride Cervélo. Will you soon be too? You can simply lease the Cervélo road bikes through your employer.
Cervélo: the best of the best since 1995
As a student at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU Eindhoven), Dutchman Gerard Vroomen was fascinated by bicycle aerodynamics. After transferring to McGill University in Canada, he even built his own time-trial bike. Together with Phil White, he created 'Baracchi': an extremely aerodynamic bicycle. There was just one problem: the Baracchi did not comply with the updated racing regulations of the UCI, the international cycling federation. Its successor, the P2 time-trial bike, however, did.
Cervélo made a name for itself as a pioneering bicycle brand. It built bikes with lightweight aluminum frames featuring the profile of an airplane wing—once again, highly aerodynamic. Cervélo has been active in the professional peloton since 2002, with Team CSC and prolific winners Fabian Cancellara and Carlos Sastre as its leading figures. In 2012, Cervélo was acquired by the Dutch company Pon. And in 2022, Jonas Vingegaard rode a Cervélo to a historic overall victory in the Tour de France.
Fun fact: As of 2024, Lease a Bike is the title sponsor of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, and their brand logo is featured on the team's jersey.
