At Lease a Bike, we love people and we love bikes. That's why we offer the best early termination conditions on the market if you need to terminate your lease contract for a valid reason. There are no hidden costs or small print, and we communicate our calculations and conditions clearly and transparently.
Lease contract started after 1/1/2023 and already active for more than 12 months
If you have a valid reason for early termination, you can return the bike:
If you do not have a valid reason for early termination, you can only terminate the lease contract by paying the remaining lease amounts for the bike in full.
Lease contract started after 1/1/2023 and active for less than 12 months
If you have a valid reason for early termination, you can return the bicycle:
If you do not have a valid reason for early termination, you can only terminate the lease contract by paying the remaining lease amounts for the bike in full.
If you have a lease contract that was drawn up in 2022 or earlier, the old conditions still apply (which did not take into account whether or not you had a valid reason to terminate the contract and which still apply at most other bicycle leasing companies in Belgium). You will then pay the remaining lease payments (excluding maintenance and insurance costs).
For all lease contracts that started after June 2, 2025, and are terminated early without valid reason:
If your contract has been active for less than 12 months and you do not wish to take over the bicycle:
If your contract has been active for more than 12 months and you do not wish to take over the bicycle:
If something happens in your career that forces you to terminate your bike lease “against your will” earlier than the agreed period of 36 months, we fully understand. We consider the following to be valid reasons:
The final settlement is invoiced to the employer, who can then pass it on to the employee e.g. via outstanding holidays or 13th month.
Unfortunately, Private Lease is not an option and only the above options are available to terminate the lease contract before its end date.
As soon as your lease contract is terminated, your service & insurance also stops. From this date, you are no longer insured against damage or theft. You can also no longer have maintenance carried out. We recommend insuring your own bike and maintaining it properly for years of cycling pleasure.
When the lease is terminated, the costs can only be settled with the employee as a net cost. It is no longer possible to offset it against the gross salary because the tax benefit also expires when the lease is terminated.
Of course you may, just make sure that this is done before the specified date when the lease is terminated. After that, it is in fact no longer possible.
Unfortunately, this is not possible.
You can always terminate the lease contract and purchase the bike. The costs will never exceed the lease price x the remaining number of months or the current market price. At Lease a Bike, the lowest price applies as the takeover price. With other leasing companies, you pay the remaining months in one go without the tax benefit.
Calculation example 1:
You have an electric bike that costs €4,400 with a monthly net lease price of €56. If you terminate after 10 months, you lose the tax benefit and with other leasing companies you pay €164 x 26 months + residual value = approximately €5,000. With Lease a Bike, you pay €3,666.
Calculation example 2:
You have a speed pedelec that costs €5,900 with a monthly net lease price of €72. If you terminate the lease after 6 months, you lose the tax benefit and pay €216 x 30 months + residual value = approximately €7,365 with other leasing companies. With Lease a Bike, you pay €5,310.
Calculation example 3:
You have a city bike that costs €1,500 with a monthly net lease price of €22. If you terminate the lease after 20 months, you lose the tax benefit and pay €64 x 6 months + residual value = approximately €1,250 with other leasing companies. With Lease a Bike, you pay €1,000.
